How a gear pump works


The working principle of the gear pump: the active gear (outer rotor) with internal teeth drives the inner rotor to rotate in the same direction in the fully enclosed pump body. The pump body and a crescent plate on the front cover separate the suction port from the discharge port. When rotating, a negative pressure is formed at the suction port and the liquid is sucked in. The rotor transports the liquid to the discharge port and discharges the pump body under pressure to complete the liquid transfer. The pump is mainly composed of internal and external rotor, shaft, pump body, front cover, bracket, seal, bearing, etc. There are two types of seals: mechanical seals and packing seals. For high temperature, high viscosity and highly corrosive media, packing seals are selected. When transporting crystallizable materials, heat shields can be designed on the front cover and pump body, which can be heated and melted by steam during operation. The pump can be equipped with a valve. When the pump or piping system is overpressurized, the valve opens, forming an internal backflow, ensuring the system.
